Canon EOS-1D X Mark III Autofocus When Video Recording

♪♪♪ Hi I’m Charles Zablan, from
Canon USA, with a look at video autofocus in the Canon EOS-1D X
Mark III. The EOS-1D X Mark III refines Canon’s proven
Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus, adding not only Face Detection, but
Eye Detection and new Head Detection technology. Equally important,
the Mark III now adds impressive Servo AF capabilities, for
focus with moving subjects. For technical reasons, AF is not
possible for RAW video, or during 4K at 60p or 50p. AF can
cover anywhere from a small, single Spot AF point to nearly
the entire picture area, when Face Detect + Tracking is
selected. Movie Servo AF can be turned on or off. When active,
you can adjust Servo AF’s speed — great for adjusting the rate
of rack focusing — as well as its sensitivity, for locking-on
or immediately re-focusing on new subjects. The same
impressive Subject Tracking settings in still imaging are
available with video, for following subjects around the frame. People Priority sets the AF system to focus upon and
follow human subjects, but it can be turned off to prioritize
other moving subjects. Even Manual focus can still
take advantage of Dual Pixel technology. Tap the screen to
select one AF point location, and use Focus guide to confirm
sharpest manual focus. And, there’s Manual Focus Peaking,
which can display sharp focus over the entire screen. For more information about

  1. Yes Canon we need this camera. We can not wait to start shooting with the 1dx Mark lll!!! We have been waiting for video specs like these for years!!!!

  2. My 500$ SL2 has DPAF at 1080p60. Why 3 years later over $6k camera doesn't have it at 4K? Moreover, my 1080p60 has sound, and here 1080p120 is silent…

  3. bmpcc 6k is better. Why 6k camera can't use dpaf in 5.5k? If you, guys, will make a software update, I'll buy 2 of them.

  4. The TECHNICAL REASONS are technical reasons only for Canon's marketing executives and accountants!
They do not want to give a possible option for C300 III and C500 II shooters to buy a cheaper camera.
But it is a huge mistake. You need to distinguish the cinema cameras with greater innovations for cinema, not by removing 60p and RAW autofocus from 1DX III and the upcoming RF version!
The technical reasons are not real and we know that. RAW video uses less image processing than H.265 because you don't need to use DIGIC for expensive H.265 encoding!
RAW is bound by IO and not by image processing power. It's RAW because it's unprocessed.
Canon, if you want to beat Sony, you must understand that we are strongly looking for a company that does not purposefully limit the features to protect the cinema line.
THAT is the biggest problem now because the companies have stopped fighting for the little guy, they are all protecting the cinema cameras for the elites only.
It has become a big problem with Sony. If you want to win us back, we need to see the OPPOSITE behavior as Sony.
We want a company that does not have the cinema line limiting everything in the camera for content creators.
That will win you great loyalty and respect and admiration from many if you can be the company who is un-Sony-like.
Personally I am not buying 1DX III after I found out you can't autofocus with 60p and RAW.
But at the same time, I'm not buying any Canon camera now! I was never going to buy a C300 III in the first place!
I wanted a smaller camera that can work with smaller gimbals and handheld, but does not limit the features.
1DX III was going to be my first Canon camera because the Sony A7S3 was never released.
I am 99% sure that Sony won't disable autofocus for 60p.

  5. Hi Canon. I think you are wrong in your own words. The 1D X Mark III has autofocus when recording at 4K60 and 50 fps if using the 1.3x crop mode. I believe you should say it like that and not as you said in the video. Can you please confirm? Thanks.

  6. You guys need to do a update for this camera bringing 24 in 1080p also fix the auto focus in uncropped
4k at 60fps and 5.5k raw footage if
You guys fix that I will buy this camera upgrading from my canon 1Dx Mark ii
