Hello everyone. This is Patrick Hardy again with ICA, and today we’re going to be talking about smart homes. Let’s begin. So, why is knowing about a smart home important? Well, older homes are becoming integrated with these things on an escalating rate, especially in middle, but more upper-middle class and upper-class areas. Even on an older home, where it’s been restored, or they slowly add these systems in place to help with the overall functionality. So, digital interfacing is the type of interfacing that’s done between a device and another device. Whether it be a camera to a smart home hub, or a refrigerator, as we see – a computer, a tv, light bulb – doesn’t matter. Now, we’re going to get into it. There’s a
lot of different types of interfaces and there’s a lot of different types of protocols, and
they all have their pro’s and con’s. Now, smart water shutoff. If you have the
potential for bad pipes, this is just incredible. Or, you have a 13-year-old that likes to run
the faucet a lot. You’ll be able to see the water usage during the different times of day. The big ones out there right now are Moen,
Stream Labs, Guardian, and Elexa. Not Alexa, like Amazon, but E-L-E-X-A. Believe it or not, an estimated 80% of smart home devices are vulnerable to a wide range of attacks, which we’ll go over. Before I go any further, you should really talk to your client, and make sure they get with the current owner, to ensure that they disclose all the smart home devices they may have installed on their house already.
