Mane Man: Fashion Week Hairstylist Paul Hanlon

We work in fashion it should be a fantasy. For the 6 minutes the show runs we really want to celebrate a dream I mean I love doing fashion week. As the years have gone on I’ve certainly gotten to do more and more shows You know I work with a super close team that I adore and love and I wouldn’t be able to do this without them. “Can we get a little bit more curl in the back. Sit down there darling” And what I love about this is the spontaneousness of everything. “Julio give me the spray” I’m very fortunate to work with people who are very open. As hair and makeup artists it’s nice to feel that your brought in to give it your kind of hand in a way. I kind of still have to pinch myself with the people that I get to work with. I always like my hair to feel like it’s got an emotion to it as well. You question kind of how the girl got there “No parting so it looks like they’ve got a synthetic wig on” I like to see hair that you don’t see the technique in it and you question how it got there. It’s almost more like a? lm that it tells a story of where the girl has come from, where she has been. So there’s always like a tension to it and I always like something that is broken about it. In our job you’ve got to really learn to have respect for the people that you work with. And also you want to make your little mark. Have that little finish to what the designer does with the hair. It’s a big part of a photograph and it’s a big part of a show. Hair gives character
